Maryland Environmental Service is looking for an entry level GIS Specialist to work within the Environmental Monitoring Division/Geospatial and Engineering Services section. The selected candidate may be assigned to work offsite within various partner agency locations and may assist with field data collection populating databases, maintaining geo-databases, testing new applications, and performing analyses using ESRI’s ArcGIS Desktop and ArcGIS Online. The selected candidate may also assist with data QA/QC and maintenance of recently acquired data for integration into relational database management systems along with facilitating the completion of cartographic requests. Position may involve overnight travel within Maryland.
Required qualifications for this position include: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in Geography, GIS Technology, Cartography, Environmental Science, Computer Science, or a related field with minimum of 9 credit hours in courses specifically related to GIS operation/management, plus at least 1 year of related experience. Must have a valid driver’s license with less than 5 points.
A GIS-based environmental background is a plus, along with knowledge of global positioning technologies. Specifically, experience with ArcGIS and Trimble GPS units, in addition to using ESRI's Modelbuilder and creating or editing data in an ESRI desktop, (ArcMap or ArcPro), environment is preferred. Must maintain current knowledge of GIS technology, have the ability to work independently, and be able to communicate effectively. Experience in reviewing design plans and knowledge of stormwater systems is also a plus.
