Ward Slacum, Jr., MEES Alumna, Director of Program Operations, Oyster Recovery Partnership

Ward is the Director of Program Operations at Oyster Recovery Partnership, an environmental non-profit located in Annapolis, MD. Ward earned a Master’s degree in Fisheries Science from the University of Maryland MEES Program and a bachelor degree in Environmental Science from the UMD Eastern Shore campus. His career has focused on assessing human impacts to marine environments with an emphasis on complex fisheries and marine habitat issues. Ward has managed several research programs supporting marine habitat and species management. As Director of Operations, Ward is responsible for managing all activities in the Oyster Restoration, Aquaculture, Fisheries, and Monitoring and Assessment programs. Over the past 5 years these programs have helped to restore nearly 1000 acres of Chesapeake Bay oyster habitat, expanded participation in Maryland’s oyster aquaculture industry, and developed novel fisheries management tools to assist in the management of Maryland fisheries. Prior to joining ORP, Ward was the program manager of Versar’s Coastal and Marine Assessment Program. He was born on the Eastern Shore of Maryland and resides in Stevensville. In his free time, Ward enjoys being outdoors gardening, boating, fishing, and making furniture in the woodshop.
