Greg Busch, P.E., joined the Maryland Environmental Service (MES) as Managing Director of Water/Wastewater in August 2026. He leads the engineering and operational services for water and wastewater, including biosolids management.

Mr. Busch has over 20 years of experience working in the environmental and construction management industries, with work in both the public and private sectors. Before joining MES, Mr. Busch managed Maryland’s drinking water regulatory and water appropriations permitting programs at the Maryland Department of the Environment (MDE). In this role, he oversaw the development of the state’s regulatory framework for Indirect Potable Reuse (IPR) and issued Maryland’s first-of-its-kind IPR permit. He led the effort to automate his program’s business processes, improving turnaround times and overall customer service. In his prior role at MDE, Mr. Busch was responsible for environmental water quality modeling and the development of Maryland’s Phase 3 Watershed Implementation Plan for the Chesapeake Bay.

Mr. Busch holds a Master of Science in Environmental Engineering from the University of California, Berkeley, and a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from Tufts University. He became interested in drinking water and sanitation issues while serving in the Peace Corps in Mali.
