The Prince George’s County Organics Composting Facility (OCF), which is operated in partnership with MES, is one of the largest and most successful facilities of its kind on the East Coast. When organic materials are landfilled, the decomposition process releases methane, a greenhouse gas. Since 2013, the OCF has been keeping food scraps and other organic material out of landfills, changing the process, and eliminating those emissions. Today, the OCF produces 55,000 cubic yards of finished compost, which are sold annually as Leafgro GOLD®.
