FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

MILLERSVILLE, MD — Today, Dr. Charles Glass joins MES as its Director, the top leadership position at the organization. He was appointed to this role by Governor Larry Hogan last week. He joins MES from his recent position as Deputy Secretary at the Maryland Department of Natural Resources (DNR).

“Charles has served in senior leadership roles in our administration since 2016, and I am proud to appoint him to this position,” said Governor Hogan in a statement. “His expertise in areas such as water and wastewater treatment and solid waste management will be a tremendous asset to the MES team.”

Prior to his position at DNR, Dr. Glass served as Assistant Secretary at the Maryland Department of Transportation. He has 20 years of experience in academia and the engineering consulting industry, including serving as an associate professor in civil engineering at Howard University.

Dr. Glass received his Bachelor of Science in civil engineering at Johns Hopkins University and he completed his Master of Science and Ph.D. at the University of Colorado at Boulder.

“In a time where the need to be focused on the challenges of operating in a pandemic and post-pandemic environment will be a priority, MES will have an important role,” said Roy McGrath, IOM, CAE, who recently became chief of staff for the executive branch of the State of Maryland, after serving as CEO of MES since 2016. “As MES looks to the future, it should be well served by the broad experience, credentials, and forward-looking vision that Dr. Glass will bring as MES’ new Director and Chairman” said McGrath.

MES’ headquarters staff has telecommuted since March 13 and has been continuing to do so while the state remains in Phase II of the COVID-19 recovery. The MES team plans to hear from Dr. Glass, and welcome him to the team, via a video conference in the coming days.
